وافقت سلطات قبرص على تعيين الكندي كولين ستيوارت مبعوثا خاصا للأمين العام للأمم المتحدة في الجزيرة، حسبما أوردت وكالة الأنباء القبرصية اليوم الأحد، نقلا عن مصادر دبلوماسية.
ويتوقع أن يتولى ستيوارت – الذي عمل قبل ذلك مبعوثا أمميا خاصا بملف الصحراء – منصبه الجديد خلفا للكندية إليزابيث سبيهار، بعد تسوية كل القضايا الفنية، ليصبح ثاني ممثل لبلده (بعد سبيهار) الذي سيترأس خلال السنوات الخمس اللاحقة قوة الأمم المتحدة لحفظ السلام في قبرص (يونفيسيب).
كما سيتولى ستيوارد إدارة الأمور بطول “الخط الأخضر” الذي يقسم الجزيرة إلى قسمين: القسم اليوناني، أي جمهورية قبرص المعترف بها دوليا، والقسم التركي الشمالي الذي أعلن استقلاله كـ “جمهورية شمال قبرص التركية”، دون أن تعترف بها أي دولة ما عدا تركيا.
